OpenAI closes in on updated GPT-5 model release

OpenAI has been sprinting from updated pre-generative large language model (LLM) to (LLM) the past three years as it shifted the underlying platform of its ChatGPT service from GPT-3 to GTP-4 and rumors have it that a fifth iteration could be dropped soon.

According to a report from Business Insider, OpenAI may be gearing up to release an update to ChatGPT with a GPT-5 model as its source as soon as this summer.

Currently ChatGPT is powered by OpenAI’s GTP-4 and 4 Turbo models but over the past few months, users have noticed performance issues that have accompanied the latest update, and it would seem the company is fast tracking a new model to address those concerns.

As Business Insider reports, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has stated that GPT-5 will be a “materially better” upgrade over GPT-4. Altman and company have already begun “red teaming” and testing internally GPT-5’s capabilities that tease autonomous task performance and enhanced prompt recognition and new features.

While Business Insider is reporting on a summer release for a GPT-5 model, it should be stated that Altman has recently stated that he doesn’t know when GTP-5 will be released, but he does plan to launch an “amazing model” sometime this year.

GPT-5 continues to undergo rigorous testing to address performance issues, reliability, accuracy, response times as well privacy and copyright regulations which takes time, so Altman could be discussing another independent pre-generative model like Sora or MusicFX destined for a release later this year.
