Everybody is impatiently waiting for the next handheld from ASUS, and we finally have some official information about it.

Unfortunately, the new handheld won’t be the next generation of Ally ROG, instead, we’ll get a revamped original model.

The next handheld from ASUS is the ROG Ally X

ASUS teased ROG Ally 2 recently, but it turns out, it’s not Ally 2, but an improved version of the original.

The company is being quiet on all the details, but according to The Verge, the handheld will use the same AMD Z1 Extreme CPU and 7-inch 48–120Hz VRR screen.

On the bright side, Asus SVP Shawn has stated that the new model will offer better battery life:

We’re not looking at 30 to 40 percent more capacity. We’re looking at way more than that.

Battery life was one of the biggest concerns, and we’re happy to see that ASUS has addressed them with the new model.

ASUS also plans to enhance the memory, so we’ll see more than 16GB of RAM. This is a big improvement since you can allocate more memory to the GPU thus boosting your performance.

There’s also a longer M.2 2280 SSD slot, so upgrading storage will be easier.

ASUS has changed the position of the SD card reader away from the vents, thus addressing issues with SD cards that many had.

The console will be a bit heavier due to larger larger battery, but it will also have revised grips and slight adjustments to its D-Pad, joystick, and triggers.

Ally X should be more repairable with redesigned joystick modules that will be easily interchangeable.

Keep in mind that this isn’t all, and ASUS is keeping other juicy information under wraps for the time being. Sadly, the new console will be more expensive than the previous model.

This is all for now, and the official announcement is set for June 2nd, so stay tuned! In other news, don’t miss the ASUS ROG Ally update since it brings performance improvements.
