Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut crossplay

All set for release on May 16, 2024, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will have crossplay support, but there’s a catch. Actually, there are three!

First, the game will support crossplay for the PC version but not on the Steam deck. This is due to the multiplayer mode requiring Windows to get features available on the PlayStation Network.

Second, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will be marked as Unsupported on Steam Deck for the same reason.

Nixxes Software, the game developer, shared the information in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

We know many of you are eager to play Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on handheld gaming devices like the Steam Deck. We’re happy to share that the single player experience, including the Iki Island expansion, can be enjoyed on Steam Deck and similar handheld gaming PCs as we’ve worked extensively to optimize performance and deliver the best possible experience on these devices.

You may notice that Steam marks the game as ‘Unsupported’ for Steam Deck. This is due to the Legends co-op multiplayer mode requiring Windows to access PlayStation Network integrated features.

PSN sign-in requirement also affected Helldivers 2 players, with thousands dropping negative reviews on Steam. The developers ultimately had to cancel the account linking update!

But it seems like that’s not the case with every title. Sony is making PSN account linking mandatory this time around. It even removed Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut from regions without PSN access.

Coming to the third and last catch. Crossplay in Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will be in Beta testing and won’t be automatic. So, you can expect changes to the functionality in the coming days based on the feedback.

As for the automatic part, players will have to invite friends on a Windows PC, PS 4, or PS 5 to the PlayStation Network to enjoy crossplay. Nixxes Software explains it in the official post.

As previously announced, Legends co-op multiplayer mode will include cross-play between players on PS4 consoles, PS5 consoles and PC. Legends will be functional on PC at launch, but you won’t be automatically matched with players on different platforms. Cross-play will launch in beta, meaning you can try it out by inviting your PlayStation Network friends. We would love your feedback as we continue to make adjustments in the weeks following launch!

The PlayStation blog has been updated to include the information.

If you are keenly waiting for the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, Nixxes Software has shared the launch schedule detailing the exact time it will be released across regions. Although, the game is available for pre-download on Steam.

Besides crossplay support on Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, there’s another feature you should be excited about. PlayStation trophies are coming to PC!
